I’ve had some time to reflect on my proposed FLC project and the comments/suggestions provided. Briefly, the project will consist of “scaling up” the incorporation of ePortfolio from the three nursing courses where it has been developed over the past several semesters to the remaining nursing courses. Ultimately, my goal is for nursing students to use ePortfolio to engage in deeper reflective practices to develop their clinical judgment as they progress through the program. A suggestion was to develop a rubric to define “deeper reflection” and/or examine clinical judgment. That got my juices flowing! I love a good search of the scientific literature and was not disappointed in my findings. I discovered several rubrics that can potentially cover both bases. I think I’m looking at one or more potential studies and publications from this project as a result.
Another exciting development from this project is the opportunity to collaborate with Lori Rand, Online Writing Specialist and fellow FLC colleague. She has provided me with an excellent script and video to help students better understand the reflective writing process, which I have already introduced to one of my courses as well as shared with my nursing faculty colleagues. I am thrilled with this cross-campus collaboration and envision greater opportunities to come. Stay tuned!
